The mAadhaar application has been released by the Unique Identification Authority of India with the aim of reaching a large number of smartphone users. This app offers various Aadhaar services and provides a personalized section for Aadhaar holders, allowing them to carry their Aadhaar information as a soft copy instead of a physical copy.

The key features of mAadhaar are as follows:

• Multilingual: To make sure that Aadhaar services are accessible to residents of India who speak different languages, the app provides menu options, button labels, and form fields in English as well as in 12 Indian languages—Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. After installation, users are prompted to select their preferred language. However, data entered in the forms must be in English to avoid typing challenges caused by limitations in mobile keyboards.
• Universality: The app can be installed on smartphones by residents with or without Aadhaar. However, to access personalized Aadhaar services, residents must register their Aadhaar profile in the app.
• Aadhaar Online Services on Mobile: Users of mAadhaar can access various featured services for themselves or for other residents in need of Aadhaar or related assistance. The functionalities are divided into the following categories:

1. Main Service Dashboard: Provides direct access to download Aadhaar, order a reprint, update address information, download offline eKYC, show or scan QR codes, verify Aadhaar details, verify email addresses or mobile numbers, retrieve UID/EID (Unique Identification Number/Enrollment ID), and request an Address Validation Letter.
2. Request Status Services: Allows residents to check the status of different online requests.
3. My Aadhaar: A personalized section for Aadhaar holders, eliminating the need to enter the Aadhaar number to access Aadhaar services. This section also offers facilities to lock/unlock Aadhaar or biometric authentication.

Under the "My Aadhaar" section, users can:

• Lock their Aadhaar number anytime they wish, enhancing security.
• Lock/unlock biometric data to secure biometric authentication. Once the resident enables the biometric locking system, their biometric data remains locked until they choose to either unlock it temporarily or disable the locking system permanently.
• Generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs) as an alternative to SMS-based OTPs (one-time passwords).
• Update their Aadhaar profile data after a successful update request.
• Share their password-protected eKYC or QR code for safe and paperless verification.

Aadhaar holders can include up to three profiles (with the same registered mobile number) in their profile section. Additionally, Aadhaar services on SMS are available even when there is no network, provided that SMS permission is granted. Lastly, the app helps users find the nearest enrollment center through the "Locate the Enrollment Center" feature.
